Is a ROBOT an Ideal Worker??

IS  A ROBOT AN IDEAL WORKER?

We often hear a complaint about work in a factory. The work is too boring, heavy, repetitive, and even too dangerous for the worker. The operative does not have to think about the work. He gets no job satisfaction.
One answer to this problem is a Robot. For a certain job, a robot is much better than a human operative. Once it has been programmed, it will do its job over and over again. It never gets bored; it works at a constant speed; it does not make a mistake; its work is always of the same standard; it does not get tired; it does not go on strike; it can work for 24 hours without a break for food, rest, or sleep; it does not take a holiday or demand a higher wage.
A robot is usually made to act like a human machine. It has another advantage, too. It can be designed to do almost any job. You cannot change a human body, but a robot’s arm, for example, can be made to move in any direction. A robot can also do very heavy work and it can operate in a condition that is too dangerous, too hot or too cold for a person to work in. It can work under water, in a poisonous, radioactive area. And on top of all this, a robot never complains.

STEP 1The text talks about the advantages of robots. Make a list of these advantages, and the disadvantages of human beings that are implied.

ADVANTAGES OF ROBOTS- They never get bored.- They work at a constant speed.- They do not make mistakes.- Their work is always of the same standard.- They don't get tired.- They don't go on strike.- They can work all day without a break. They don't need holidays.- They don't ask for higher wages. - They can be designed to do almost any job.- They can do very heavy work.- They can work in conditions where humans can't.- They never complain.

DISADVANTAGES OF HUMANS- They get bored- Their work rate varies.- They make mistakes.- Their work is not always of the same standard.- They get tired.- They sometimes go on strike. - They need breaks.- They need holidays.- They ask for higher wages.- They can do only certain jobs.- They can't do very heavy work.- They can't work in all conditions.- They sometimes complain.

STEP 2a) Complete this paragraph with appropriate words from the INPUT.

Robots are particularly useful for ................... in places where ................... would die.  They don't .......... air so they can be used in space or ...................... . Special ................... have also been ..................... for handling ......................... materials. A number of industrial and military ......................... are also used to ................... in ......................... gases. So in many ways robots mean that people do not have to ................ in ......................... jobs. But, of course, ........................... are still needed to ......................... and repair the robots.

       b) Find words or expressions in the INPUT which mean the same as:

worker = operativeunchanging = constant enjoyment of your work = job satisfactionrepetitive = boring, because it never changes to go on strike = to stop work e.g. for higher wages

STEP 3Read this text about the advantages human beings have over robots.

It is obvious that robots have many advantages over human beings. However, it is also true that humans can do many things that robots can't. For example, humans can carry out a task without having to be told exactly how to do it first - in other words, they don't always have to be programmed. Humans can walk, run, swim, drive cars, fly aeroplanes, and so on, but robots are usually fixed in one place. If they are able to move, robots can do so only in a very limited way. Another advantage humans have is the way the same person can do jobs as different as making a cup of tea and designing a new type of motor car. And unlike robots, people can know whether what they are doing is good or bad, and whether it is boring or interesting. Also, robots are only just beginning to be able to understand speech and writing, but humans can communicate easily with each other by these methods, and by many others - telephone, drawings, radio, and so on - as well. And we should not forget that robots owe their existence to humans - we make them, repair them and control them, not the other way round. Finally, humans can produce new little humans by themselves!

Make notes of the main points. - humans can think for themselves- humans are much more mobile- a person can carry out a wider range of jobs than a robot- humans have feelings.- humans are able to communicate with each other much more efficiently

        - humans can respond to emergencies- humans are the creators of robots- humans can reproduce themselves

    A. differences in the work of man and robot: the robot will never feel tired or bored, but if we program a robot that has been damaged then it will work even bother to be suspended for the robot repair program. While the work of one man would have no point in doing a job because people will feel tired and bored, but at least if humans make mistakes faster to return to his job in a short time.
    2. positive impact: it will do the job faster and will not complain like humans.
Negative impact: if the robot suffered damage will hinder the processing time. and if all the companies using robots, to human jobs may be more narrow and the value of unemployment for men will increase.

Robot never complained, bored, fatigue, robots work fast and on time. But if there are errors in the performance of the robot, would be difficult to fix. Different from the human, who often complained to his work. Different from the robot, if humans make mistakes, they will quickly resolve it.

  4. 1. robot proved to be more productive alleviate human work more faster constant relieve job-tested human being, not cold or hot weather know, working the room was toxic radioactive robot can still work well, but the robot was operated by a man who in the program to run the work of human desire, while men do not like the tireless robot can not work 24 hours continuously, if weary to rest, the robot has become a trend alternative to replace the human work but impact reduced employment
    2. positiv effect if the company uses the robot as a production worker assured them, causing profits to the company and can relieve man's job
but there is a negative impact if the company employs all the robots in the lack of employment because his company is replaced by a robot, reduce pollution and human resources

    1. A differences of human and robot in the work is :
Humans, on the other hand, have to be paid week after week, year after year. They go on vacation and still have to be paid. They get sick and still have to be paid. They retire and never come back and still, they have to be paid.
Another reason why robots take human jobs is to reduce the danger to humans. There is still plenty of danger for
workers on many jobs, but more and more these days the most dangerous tasks are being relegated to robots.
    2.
positve : robots take human jobs is to reduce the danger to humans
    negative: many unemployed

  7. answer for number 1:
I think the differences between human
    worker and robot are:
on working, human worker can't be
designed to do any job. They need time for
rest, break for food, even take their holiday.
They are impossible for doing all of jobs
every time (full of in 24 hours). Human
worker have a limited capacity in activities,
it looked from sometime they can feel tired
and sick, and their body can't be removed
    when it feels tired.
While robot, it can be designed to do almost
all of jobs. it can work almost full of in 24
hours without need time for rest, break for
food, take holiday, etc. Even, it can do heavy
    work in some extreme conditions.
Especially, robot can't feel tired and sick,
even though it gets destruction, it can be
    removed and get well again.

possitive impacts: operation of job can be
done faster than doing by human worker
because robot have constan speed, so it can
    do work repidly.
negative impact: if all of companies in
Indonesian use robot, job will not ordered
although robot can do jobs in constan
speed. And human worker (employee) just
will get 'blind sallary' as in Indonesian we
    called 'makan gaji buta'.
And also company must have much money for pay of rent robots, even maintenance according to periodic.

different from human beings who have feelings and can feel tired, hungry, sleepy, etc.
2.A.Positive: more companies could save by not giving salary to the robot, and production can be faster in comparison with human workers

B.negatife: unemployment is not resolved instead will continue to grow

    2. Positive : the faster and better production so as to advance the income Integration
Negatife : too many workers on severance so that the explosion of unemployment and the impact rising crime rate

  14. When we talk about job, and we are explain differences between human and robot on the job. of course the robot is perfect on the job. it can job not stop for 24 hours, so not feel sad, not rest. well, robot is the best. But we must look what's job. if that we put on the hard job. course robot can do it. but if the job need something feel, so human who must do it, the humen have a heart to give some policy on the job.
Well, of course the positive if each the company have robot, the job will be mild, the job fast completed, a little error, and not many funds or money out.
and the negative impacts, unemployment jump, less magnitude will have an impact on the environment, and more will happen for it.
